After leading the Davenport women's basketball team on the floor to its second NAIA Division II Tournament title game appearance in three years in 2012-13, Kayla Gross remained with the program and served as assistant coach under Mike Williams for the following two seasons.
Although she guided her former teammates from the bench, Gross helped the Panthers keep the winning tradition alive by extending the program's impressive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship run to nine straight seasons and make 11 consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Championship.
A native of New Lothrop, Mich., Gross helped the Panthers win the WHAC regular-season title all four years, with the exception of her redshirt season in 2009-10. She posted perhaps the best performance her senior season. She received the starting nod in all but one game while averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 assists per game while connecting her second most 3-point shots with 38.Â
As a student-athlete, Gross understood the balance between academic and athletics as she was named Academic All-WHAC and NAIA Scholar-Athlete three times.
Gross received a degree in accounting and finance from Davenport in 2013.
