CANTON, Mich. – In their first tournament action in almost a month, Davenport sophomore
Alex Watier took home medalist honors to lead the Panthers to their second straight win in league play. DU posted a team score of 297 as they took the top honor over Siena Heights by two and host Madonna by three. The Panthers enter the final WHAC Jamboree next Friday at Lourdes with a six shot lead over Madonna.
The DU men's golf team had not played in a tournament since their last league event on September 12, but the long layoff had no effect on the Panthers as they posted their second win in the three events in league play. Davenport finished just nine shots over par (288) with a team score of 297 on a cool and wet day at Fellows Creek GC.
Sophomore
Alex Watier continued his consistent play as he finished tied for medalist honors with Adam Schmaltz from Siena Heights University with an even par 72. DU placed two more players in the top-7 individually as senior
Jordan Phillips was third with a 73 and sophomore
Adrian Balbas finished seventh with a 74. Rounding out the scoring was junior
Zack Feher with a 78.
Davenport came into the event leading the overall scoring by three shots and thanks to a three shot margin over Madonna today, the Panthers will take a 6-shot lead into the final event on Friday at Lourdes University. DU will take part in the Taylor University invite next week as well here in Grand Rapids at Egypt Valley CC.
