GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head baseball coach Kevin Tidey is pleased to announce an additional four student athletes to an already solid recruiting class for the 2013 squad.  Former Panther Colton Loomis is returning to DU after a year at Kellogg Community College and he is joined by fellow JC transfers Daniel Sullivan of Madison Area Tech and Carlos Berroa of Grand Rapids CC. Derek Dennis is headed back to West Michigan after playing at the University of Michigan the last two seasons.

Derek Dennis (Grand Rapids, Mich.) - Derek is a transfer from the University of Michigan.  While at Michigan, Derek made the Big 10 All-Freshman Team and prepped at nearby Forest Hills Central High School where he was  a 10th round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Rays.  “Derek is a very talented shortstop that will make a huge impact here at DU, said Tidey.  We are very excited to help him get a fresh start, and can't wait to see what he can do here.”

Carlos Berroa (Grand Rapids, Mich.) - Carlos is a transfer from Grand Rapids Community College.  Last season, Carlos was instrumental in helping the Raiders make it to the Junior College World Series and at the conclusion of the season, Carlos was named an NJCAA 2nd Team All-American. “Carlos is a big pick up for us, added Tidey.  He will probably transition over to second base and he adds another left handed hitter to our line-up, and is also a very good base runner. “

Daniel Sullivan - Dan is a transfer from Madison Area Technical College.  He was one of the top pitchers for a Wolfpack team that made a run in the Junior College World Series last spring.  Dan also had a very successful summer playing for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods Collegiate League.  “Dan is a pitcher that will have a big impact on our staff.  He is a proven winner and we expect him to bring that mentality to our program.”

Colton Loomis - Colton will be transferring back to DU from Kellogg Community College.  Colton started his college stint at Davenport where he was a key contributor out of the bullpen as a freshman in 2010.  He decided to transfer to Kellogg Community College where he was one of the Bruins top starters this past spring. “We were very disappointed to lose Colton after his first year, but are even more excited to get him back.  He has been a winner at every level, and we expect him to be a huge part of our staff this spring.”

The Panthers posted their best season in program history a year ago while finishing with 35 wins and a second place finish in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference.
