SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The 2013 national tournament is off and running as the Davenport Panthers posted a 7-1 win over SUNY-Maritime on Tuesday night. Davenport, the top seed from the North Region improves to 1-0 in Pool C with the win over No. 4 SUNY while No. 3 Marquette downed No. 2 Kennesaw 4-2 in the other first round game. DU and Marquette will meet at 3:45 p.m. EST on Wednesday in the second game of pool play.
Davenport opened up its fourth straight appearance at the national tournament with an impressive 7-1 win over SUNY-Maritime. The Panthers jumped out quick with a goal from
Jake Otto, who finished with a hat-trick on the night, less than four minutes into the game. SUNY followed just a minute later on a power play goal but it would be all Davenport after that.
DU led 4-1 after one, 5-1 after two and finished it with a 2-0 performance in the third period with both goals coming on the power play in the final twenty minutes
John Cruse picked up the win in net for Davenport as he stopped 20 shots on the night.
Davenport will continue pool play on Wednesday when they face Marquette University at 3:45 p.m. EST. The other game in Pool C is Kennesaw State vs. SUNY-Maritime.
