Manuel Leija claimed the 133-pound weight class title over the weekend at the Albion College Invitational. Leija was one of several Panthers to turn in solid performances. He opened up with a win by technical fall 17-2 over Tamas Eder of Otterbein. In the semifinal, he beat Randy Frailey of Siena Heights 6-2 and won the weight class with an 8-2 decision over Kyle Schaaf of Albion. Davenport was one of two Division II schools (Alderson Broaddus) to compete.
Crue Cooper finished second in the 197-pound bracket after allowing no points against him in the first two matches. He beat Bode Brown of Albion (5-0) and Joey Simcoe of Otterbein (4-0). Cooper lost 11-6 in the final but it was against Gino Sita of Alderson Broaddus who is 10-0 this season.
River Fox claimed third place in the 285-pound bracket. He had to wrestle six matches in order to get his place. He lost in the quarterfinal on sudden victory 4-2 against CJ Krum of Albion but battled back with four straight wins including two by fall. He pinned Devan Welch of Hiram in 5:55 and then pinned Billy Reed-Bodey of Otterbein in 6:37 of the third place match.
Tyson Emmons and
Trashon Rinkines finished fifth in the 141-pound and 184-pound class respectively.
Liam Hillary was sixth at 149 pounds.
