Nov. 9, 2007

Davenport traveled 14 hours to ACHA DI Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia for the first of two weekend series of these long distant rivals. Liberty will make the long trip to Grand Rapids in late January. The Panthers and the Flames have a three year history of hard nosed physical hockey.

The opening game of the series had six roughing penalties in the first period including a hard goaltender interference hit on Panther's netminder Chris Joswiak from Liberty's Ryan Hoefler. The Panthers and the Flames exchanges goals late in the period to remain tied at one goal each. The last two periods Davenport was assessed 13 of 19 penalties including seven in a row. Net minder Scott Knight replaced injured Chris Joswiak in the third period. The Flames spent most of the night on the power play and opened the game up with four power play goals and a penalty shot goal. The Panthers fought back and close the gap to within two and the Panthers had many late chances that could have changed the outcome. A late empty netter from the Flames sealed the 7-4 victory.
