Playing Without Four Starters, Panthers Drop OT Game 5-4 to Liberty

Nov. 10, 2007

Due to four DQ's to Liberty's one in Friday Night's game, the Panthers started the game without four of their starters. Scotty Knight was back in goal for the Panthers. The Panthers continued their undisciplined play with seven of the game's first eight penalties. With a few adjustments from the night before Davenport did a great job killing penalties. The Panthers played their best hockey of the season and shut down the Flames after their 2-0 lead in the first. Davenport scored four unanswered goals and seemed to be completely in control of the game. With seven minutes remaining, Liberty's Zac Bauman placed a nasty hit from behind to Davenport's freshman Jared Mailloux. Jared laid on the ice for 20 minutes and was taken off by a stretcher and driven to the local hospital for x-rays. "Referees need to crack down on hits like that. Hockey is a physical game but that hit was uncalled for" said Head Coach Paul Lowden. After 53 minutes of solid hockey the Panther's let the Flames back in the game and lost in OT 5-4. "This was a very disappointing loss, but we will learn from this. Most importantly Jared Mailloux's x-rays came back negative and he will be back in the lineup in about 2-3 weeks" commented Head Coach Paul Lowden

2006/2007 ACHA Player of the Year Adam Thomas broke out of his slump with four goals over the weekend. The Panthers look forward to more GMHL action when Miami of Ohio visits Grand Rapids for a two game series this weekend. Davenport will finish the weekend with a matinee game vs Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant, MI.
