Panthers Record Huge Win over Northwood

Oct. 1, 2008

Midland, Mich. - The D3 Hockey team is taking after the D2 team as they also improved to 2-0 on the season with a huge 5-3 victory over Northwood University today in Midland. The win comes against one of the top teams in all of D3 hockey.

After opening their inaugural season with a win last weekend over Jackson CC, the Panthers kept its winning ways with a 5-3 decision today over Northwood. The win is huge for the young program as Northwood made an appearance last year in the D3 National Tournament.

DU opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the game when Ben Duthler found Mike Bowolda to give Davenport an early 1-0 lead. Northwood responded very quickly though and would score three times in the opening period for a 3-1 lead.

The young Panthers squad did not let the home team's surge get to them though as they fought right back in the second period with two unanswered goals of their own as Chad Ouellette and Adam Tomacari each posted a goal and assist in the period to tie the game at 3-3.

The final period was a battle by both teams but Davenport broke the tie with a goal midway through by Taylor Keyworth on an assist from Bowolda. And finally the Panthers secured the win with a late insurance goal at the 3:17 mark on a goal from Bowolda with the assist from Ouellette.

DU improves to 2-0 on the season and will return to the ice on Saturday, October 4 when they play at Grand Valley State in Hudsonville at Georgetown Ice Center.
