Davenport entered tonight's GMHL opener on a hot streak and the offense continued to load on the goals as they scored nine in their conference opening win against Indiana University.
DU wasted no time getting the scoring started as Kevin Doyle banged home a rebound just 2:13 into the first period. Jeremy Bultema and Tom Dowell were credited with the assists. After the Hoosiers scored on a DU power play, the game went into the first intermission with an even score at 1-1.
Whatever Head Coach Paul Lowden said during the break obviously hit home as the Panthers came roaring out of the gates scoring three times in the opening two minutes to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Goals three and four were scored just 8 seconds apart as Bobby Collar, Rick Gadwa and Adam Thomas all found the back of the net. IU got a break shortly after the fourth goal from the Panthers and cut the lead in half with a goal at the 2:12 mark. Collar would then add his second goal of the game on a beautiful pass from Eric Troup for the Panthers first power play goal of the game. The second period onslaught was completed by Adam Thomas with just 7:14 to play and DU took a 6-2 lead into the final 20 minutes.
With the game fully in hand, DU was not satisfied and Bobby Collar added two more goals to give him four in the game. Along with his 4 goals, Collar added 3 assists for a total of 7 points on the night. The final goal of the game was scored by Dan Reaume.
Eddie Wheeler posted the win in net for the Panthers as they will look to finish off the sweep and improve on their 12-0-0 record when they host Indiana again on Saturday night.
