DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS

Third Period Rally Lifts DU to 13th Straight Victory

Oct. 26, 2008

Box Score

Grand Rapids, Mich. - DU needed a third period rally on Saturday night to keep many streaks alive and after scoring three goals in the final 20 minutes, the Panthers defeated Indiana University 7-4 to complete the weekend sweep.

After scoring 8 goals in the final two periods in Friday night's 9-2 win over GMHL foe Indiana, the offense struggled to get started on Saturday. The Hoosiers held the Panthers scoreless in the opening period and went into the first intermission leading 1-0.

DU responded after trailing for the first time in a few games and put up four goals while giving up only one to lead 4-2 after 40 minutes of play. The defense for Davenport then had a few early breakdowns as they tried to complete the sweep and Indiana tied the game at four with two unanswered goals in the opening minutes of the 3rd period.

But again, the Panthers offense responded with three goals to finish off the pesky Hoosiers and won by a final score of 7-4. The win is the 13th straight to open the season for Davenport and dating back to last season, DU has now won 22 games in a row.

The Panthers will hit the ice for another GMHL game on Thursday, October 30 when they travel to Ferris State for a matchup with the Bulldogs.
