Big Rapids, Mich. - Each year the Panthers travel to Ferris State for a mid-week GMHL game and each year it becomes a battle. The 2008 version was no different as DU had to hold off a late Bulldog rally to win 6-3.
Bobby Collar got things going for the visiting Panthers in the opening period when Jeremy Barber found the forward to give DU a 1-0 advantage. Ferris came right back and tied the game, but the Panthers scored twice more in the opening period (Rogowski and Collar) to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
The two teams traded goals in the second twenty minutes with Davenport's goal coming from Jonah Rogowski. Standing just 20 minutes away from their 14th straight win, the Panthers eased off a little and allowed the Bulldogs to get within one goal at 4-3 with just 2:21 remaining. But Davenport regrouped and added one empty netter (via Adam Thomas) and a late goal from Jeff Kraemer to seal the victory.
The win lifts DU to 14-0-0 on the year and will return to action next Friday, November 7 when they host GMHL rival Michigan State University at Patterson Ice Center.
