D3 Team Suffers First Loss of Season

Oct. 5, 2008

Hudsonville, Mich. - After a two game winning streak to open the program, the Panthers were hit with some reality on Saturday night. DU struggled to a 5-3 loss to Grand Valley State's D3 team for their first loss in program history.

The opening period was a sign of things to come for the Panthers as their opponent controlled most of the action but the bright spot for DU was that they were in control of the scoreboard. After posting only three shots in the opening period, DU got one by the Lakers goaltender and went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead. DU's goal was scored by Jordan Steger on an assist from Adam Tomacari.

The Panthers would add to their lead in the second period and again posted a shutout of the Lakers as Mike Bowolda lit the lamp on a pass from Joe Kraemer. The fun would end there though as GVSU came out in the third period with a vengence and posted three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead. The Panthers would rebound though and tied the game at three on a goal from Tomacari. That would be the last offense for Davenport and the defense let them down in the end as they allowed two more goals to the Lakers and the game ended with a final score of 5-3.

The loss is the first of the season for Davenport as they fall to 2-1-0. They will look to come back strong this weekend when they take part in the GVSU invite in Hudsonville.
