Final Stats
Oxford, Ohio - Davenport held off a late charging Miami Red Hawks team 5-4 today to claim its 18th straight win to open the season and 27th overall for the program dating back to last season.
After falling behind midway through the opening period, the Panthers scored two straight goals for their first lead of the game. Jeremy Barber and Adam Thomas posted the two goals in a span of only 5 minutes but the host Red Hawks scored to tie the game less than a minute later. The Panthers would strike back though when Bobby Collar added a goal with just under 2:00 to play and DU took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission.
The two GMHL rivals would trade goals in the second twenty minutes as Davenport kept its one goal margin when Adam Thomas connected on his second of the game. Looking to put the host team out of the game, Davenport came out on fire in the final period when Kevin Doyle score a great individual goal to make the score 5-3.
Miami would go on to add a late goal but the Panthers were able to hang on for the victory.
DU will return to the ice next Saturday (November 22) when they welcome one of their main rivals in Liberty University for a 7:15 PM game at Patterson Ice Center.
