Chicago, Ill. - For the first time in the D3 Hockey Program's history, they have defeated an ACHA D2 team. The Panthers defeated Robert Morris on Friday night in Chicago and will take on the same team tonight.
The first period saw the Panthers fall behind 2-1, with DU's lone goal scored by Chad Ouellette and assisted by Ben Duthler and Peter Vogl.
The second period was a different story with the Panthers scoring four goals and giving up two. Sam Waldhart scored the first goal of the period at the sixteen minute mark. Teammates Jordan Steger and Mike Buwolda were credited with the assists. One minute later Ben Duthler scored from Buwolda and Waldhart to put the Panthers up 3-2. The lead wouldn't last for long as Robert Morris answered back with two goals to go up one but it would be all Davenport from there.
DU would tie the game up with a goal by Jordan Steger, assisted by Mike Buwolda and Sam Waldhart. Norm Farr scored shortly after off a pass from Adam Tomacari to put the Panthers in the lead going into the third period.
Sam Waldhart would score his second goal of the game in the third period, assisted by Jordan Steger and Sam Swardenski, to seal the Panthers 6-4 victory.
Davenport is now 7-7 on the season and will take on Robert Morris again tonight at 8:45pm in Chicago, IL.
