Fast Start Leads Panthers to 20th Win of Season

Dearborn, Mich. - Late Friday night, Davenport University faced off against Western Michigan (ACHA DI) for a West Michigan match-up at the East/West Classic hosted by University of Michigan-Dearborn. DU jumped out early and cruised to a 7-4 win for their 20th victory of the year.

The Panthers opened the scoring at the 7:07 minute mark of the first period with a power play goal tip in from Brit Ouellette on a slap shot from the point from Kevin Brojek. Adam Thomas also asssited on the play. Kevin Doyle added to the lead with an unassisted goal at the 10:04 mark of the first and the period ended with Davenport leading 2-0.

In the second period the Panthers added to their lead with a goal just 1:22 into the period when Rick Gadwa found the back of the net assisted by Jeremy Barber and Kevin Brojek. WMU found the scoreboard at the 7:09 mark of the second with a power play goal as they pulled their goalie for an additional attacker. Davenport responded just 30 seconds later as Brit Ouellette (his second of the night) put away a hale mary pass from Kevin Brojek. Davenport continued the scoring blitz with two more unanswered goals in the second. Rick Gadwa scored his second of the night shorthanded from Tom Dowell and Jeremy Barber. Just 3 minutes later Jeremy Barber scored a power play goal assisted by Eric Troup and Rick Gadwa. WMU responded late in the second with a power play goal of their own.

With the game in full control. the third period saw the Panthers lack the intensity they and allowed two unanswered goals to cut the lead to two. A late goal by Booby Collar sealed the 7-4 victory assited by Eric Troup and Jeremy Barber.

The Panthers face off against ACHA DI Eastern Michigan on Saturday November 29th at 1:30 pm at U of M Dearborn's Ice arena on their campus in Dearborn, MI.
