Lansing, Mich. - D3 hockey team defeated Lansing Community College in convincing fashion last night, 9-2. Their first win in six games, the Panthers came out strong and never looked backed after scoring three goals in the first period.
DU got on the board early posting their first goal five minutes into the game. Mike Bowolda was credited with the score, assisted by Andy Holtrop and Shawn French. Three minutes later the Panthers put the puck back into the net off an unassisted slap-shot from Mike Bowolda. Down 0-2, LCC changed goalies and added a short-handed goal to pull within one, but that is as close as they would get for the rest of the night. Sam Waldhart added DU's third goal from Adam Farr and Mike Bowolda which ended the first period with the Panthers in control 3-1.
DU continued to stay hot in the second, including Mike Bowolda. He capitalized on his third goal of the night to complete his first ever hat trick and extend the Panther lead to 4-1. Peter Vogl closed out the scoring for the Panthers in the second period when he scored on a pass from Ben Duthler and Sam Waldhart. LCC added another power play goal late in the period to close to gap to 5-2, but that would end all scoring for the Stars as DU dominated the third period.
The Panthers added four more goals in the third to end the game with a 9-2 victory. Ben Duthler started the scoring assisted by Mike Bowald. Joe Kraemer, known as "The Rocket" by his teammates, added two more goals both assisted by Andy Holtrop and also his brother Jason Kraemer got one of the assists on his second goal. Ending the scoring for the Panthers was Jon Kuzava who also scored his first goal of the season unassisted. Five DU players entered the Panthers scoring book with their first ever goals including: Sam Waldhart, Ben Duthler, Jon Kuzava, Joe Kraemer, and Peter Vogl.
The Panthers are now 4-6 on the season and will look to record their second straight win tonight as they host Lansing Community College at Patterson Arena. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
