Panthers Defeat Lansing CC for 2nd Night in a Row

Nov. 8, 2008

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Panthers D3 hockey team jumped out to an early lead today and held on for a 5-3 victory over Lansing CC to complete the weekend sweep. The win lifts DU to 5-6 on the year.

After dominating Lansing CC at its home ice on Friday night, the Panthers held their home advantage and escaped with a 5-3 win today to sweep the season series. Adam Tomacari got things started for the Panthers at the 17:01 mark of the 1st period when he scored from Joe Kraemer and Peter Vogl. The defenses held tough for both teams and the game went into the first intermission with that same score of 1-0 Davenport.

Four goals were scored in the second period as Lansing tied it first just 3:16 into it before Davenport scored two goals to take a 3-1 lead with only 3:36 left. Scoring for the Panthers were Mike Bowolda and Joe Kraemer (his third goal in two nights). Lansing would add a late goal in the final minute of the period to cut the lead to just one entering the final intermission.

The Panthers came out strong again in the 3rd period and got one by the Lansing goaltender to up their lead back to two goals on Tomacari's second of the night. When it looked as if the Panthers had put the final nail in the coffin, Lansing struck again and made the last ten minutes very exciting before DU got an empty-net goal from Ben Duthler to seal the win.

The win is the second in a row for Davenport and they will take the added confidence with them into their next game when they host Cincinnatti on November 14 at Patterson Ice Center.
