Panthers Defeat Sooners in Oklahoma City 7-3

Feb. 19, 2008

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Davenport University Panther's hockey team boarded the bus late Wednesday evening for the 18 hour bus ride from Grand Rapids, Mich. to Oklahoma City, Okla. to take on ACHA DI University of Oklahoma Sooners who are currently ranked #5 in the nation. The bus ride went considerably well and most slept comfortably through the night. The Panther's coaching staff decided to have the team take the ice Friday morning for a light skate to get their legs going and the decision proved to be the right move.

The first period on Friday night, the Panther's looked a little slow but they did pick up the first two goals of the game. The first was scored by freshman Brit Ouellette on an assist by Jon Stolarz and just 30 seconds later Chris Green banged home a rebound to make it 2-0.

Oklahoma bounced back scoring the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead midway through the second period. The Sooners had gained a lot of momentum until Rick Gadwa scored to tie it up assisted by Jonah Rogowski and Kevin Doyle. Less than one minute later Brit Ouellette scored his second of the game and game winner assisted by Dayne Gluting and Jeff Kraemer. The Panther's added three more tallies to cruise to a 7-3 win over the Sooners. The final three goals were scored by Adam Thomas, Ouellette (his third of the game) and Rick Gadwa (his second of the game). Chris Joswiak made the key saves to keep the momentum on Davenport's side for most of the game.
