March 2, 2008

Carmel, Ind. - Top seeded Davenport and second seeded Grand Valley State have faced off against each other three times prior to Saturday's showdown, but the meeting in Carmel, IN was for the GMHL Tournament Crown. After not settling the score in regulation, Davenport used a goal by Chad Anguilm just under seven minutes into overtime for the 5-4 victory that sealed the third straight conference tournament title for the Panthers.

#2 GVSU opened the scoring midway through the first period, but #1 Davenport countered with a goal from Jeff Kramer assisted by Kevin Doyle and Chad Anguilm. The Lakers regained the lead with a goal early in the second period and again the Panthers would answer right back with a goal from Adam Thomas off the assist by Rick Gadwa and Bobby Collar. The back and forth scoring would continue when the Lakers jumped ahead 3-2 with a goal halfway through the second period. The Panthers tied the game 3-3 at the end of the second period on a goal from Adam Thomas (his second of the game) assisted by Rick Gadwa and Dayne Gluting. Davenport took their first lead of the game early in the third with a goal from Kevin Doyle assisted by Chad Anguilm. The Lakers would not go away and they tied the game a few minutes later and then the defenses took over as the game remained tied 4-4 at the end of regulation play.

The Panthers came out on fire during the first 20 minute overtime period. Davenport's senior Chad Anguilm banged home the winner at the 13:16 mark of the overtime period giving the Panthers a Three-Peat in the GMHL Tournament Championship.
