Palmer Leads Panthers on Day One at NAIA Brickyard Classic

Indianapolis, Ind. - The NAIA Brickyard Classic features many of the Top 25 teams from around the country and Davenport is showing it belongs with the best of them. After winning in St. Francis over the weekend, the Panthers posted an opening round of 305 to sit in 3rd place only seven shots behind NAIA #6 Berry College.

DU, which has not really put together the form that won its 2nd straight WHAC championship this fall is starting to find its groove in the Hoosier State. Kevin Palmer led the charge on Day One in Indianapolis as he shot a team best 74 which was good for 6th place overall. All five Panthers posted scores in the 70's for the first time this spring and Palmer was followed by Adam Thomas (76), Nick Boone (77) and Zac Bested and Kale Waaso who each posted 78's.

Davenport trails Berry College (GA) by seven shots heading into tomorrow's 2nd and final round. Texas Wesleyan, who is ranked #12 in the latest poll sits in second place with a team score of 302.

All together, the tournament being played at the Brickyard Crossings, features 7 teams ranked in the Top 25 (Berry - #6, Lindenwood - #7, Tex, Wesleyan - #12, St. Ambrose - #13, Davenport - #15, Malone - #16 and Shorter - #17) plus 3 more teams receiving votes (Bethel, William Woods and Grandview).
