Plymouth, Ind. - In their first ever appearance at the National Championships, the Panthers have not played their best golf, but they have played well enough to make the cut. A third round 300, which is the low round of the 3-days for DU puts them right on the cut line at T-16th.
After struggling on the first two days to get off to a good start, the Panthers opened the first few holes looking to go low. After holes 1-5, DU was at 2-under par and looked to be regaining the form that led them to a 2nd straight WHAC Championship this past fall.
Zac Bested and Nick Boone led the charge on the front-nine as they both turned in under par front nine's and were followed closely by Kevin Palmer who posted 37 on the opening nine holes. Adam Thomas and Kale Waaso had opposite front-nine's but each posted 38's and it looked as if DU was ready to post a low round.
The back-nine has been tough all week for the Panthers and it proved no different on Thursday morning. DU posted 13 bogeys on the incoming nine holes to go along with one double bogey, triple bogey and even a quadruple bogey.
Nick Boone posted the low-round of the day with an even-par 72 and was closely followed by Zac Bested with a 73. Kevin Palmer, who was in the top-20 entering Thursday's round struggled finishing on Thursday and posted a 77 and the scoring was completed by Adam Thomas with a 78.
Davenport posted a team score of 300 which was the 10th best score of the day in Round Three and it kept them alive for the final round on Friday. They will enter the final 18-holes tied with Malone College (OH) and only 13 shots out of the Top 10. British Columbia continues to lead the event as they sit at even par for the tournament. They lead Johnson and Wales by three shots with one day remaining.
