D3 Team Opens up Inaugural Campaign with 7-3 Win over Jackson CC

Sept. 30, 2008

Jackson, Mich. - A new chapter was opened in Davenport athletics tonight as the ACHA D3 team opened up its inuagural season with a 7-3 win over Jackson CC. The win is the first in program history as Head Coach Chris Green led the Panthers to the victory.

Davenport, which also sports a ACHA D2 team, entered the season with many new faces to the hockey program. Chris Green, who helped last year's D2 team claim the school's first ever National Championship, led his players into battle and came away with an impressive 7-3 win.

The opening period was dominated by DU as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead highlighted by the program's first ever goal off the stick of Mike Bowolda. He notched the first goal of the game off a beautiful pass from teammate Mike Dakesian. DU would go on to add two more goals in the opening 20 minutes with the second one coming from Justin Welker.

The second period was a battle as DU held on to the lead but allowed their first goal of the season in route to a 5-2 lead heading into the final intermission. The Panthers knew they had to keep up the intensity on the road and widened the gap in the final period to come out with a 7-3 victory.

DU will return to the ice on October 1 when they travel to Northwood University for a 6:30 PM drop of the puck.
