GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport rallies in the final periods to defeat Saginaw Valley 2-1 in overtime. After a high scoring 7-6 loss last night to SVSU, the Panthers shut down the Cardinal offense, and improve to 3-3 on the year.
The opening period was all defense for DU as they left the Cardinals scoreless. Matt Sekosan (Sterling Heights, Mich.) stopped all 12 shots by SVSU, while the DU offense only got 5 shots on goal the first period.
Going into the second was much of the same story until the SVSU offense capitalized on a power play goal to take a 1-0 lead into the third period. That would be all the scoring for the defending National Champions as DU would account for the final points in the game.
Chad Ouellette (Windsor, Ont.) would tie the game up, 1-1, for the Panthers in the third from teammates Michael Stedman (Riverside, Ont.) and Teddy VanVliet (Byron Center, Mich.). Ouellette then would hit the game winner in overtime at the 3:15 mark from Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.).
DU's goalie Sekosan would finish the game with 42 saves in goal, when the Panthers were out-shot 43-24 by the Cardinals.
Davenport will look to add to their 3-win mark next week as they take on the University of Michigan-Flint and Detroit Mercy at the Patterson Ice Center.
