GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University earned their 4th win of the season and second straight at home with a 3-2 victory over the University of Michigan-Flint tonight.
The opening period of the game was all defense as both teams went into the locker room scoreless after 20 minutes of play. UM-Flint out shot the Panthers 11-10 in the first as well.
In the second period, Davenport again got off 10 shots on goal and was able to capitalize on one. Mac Worsley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) pushed the puck through from teammates Jordan Steger (Caledonia, Mich.) and Jake Williams (Jenison, Mich.). UM-Flint would get a goal of their own to end the period all tied up, 1-1.
UM-Flint would then strike first in the third to take the lead, 2-1. Then with fewer than ten minuets to go the Davenport offense went on fire. Andy Stedman (Riverside, Ont.) would put a power play goal into the net from Steger and Chad Ouellette (Windsor, Ont.) to knot the game at 2-2. The tie would not stand for long as a minute later Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) would seal the victory for DU with an unassisted goal to put them up 3-2.
DU would outshoot UM-Flint 13-5 in the third period and walk away with a 3-2 victory.
The Panthers are now 4-3 on the year and 2-2 in conference play. Davenport will be back in action tomorrow night at Patterson Ice Center for a non-conference match-up when they welcome Detroit Mercy for a 7:00 PM contest.
