Kallie Benike Goes over 1000 Career Points in 100-57 Win over Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Davenport junior Kallie Benike scored 14 points on Wednesday night to lead the #1 ranked Lady Panthers to a 100-57 victory over Kalamazoo College. The point total put Benike over 1000 career points as she becomes the 6th player in school history to achieve that mark.

Kallie, a junior guard from Campbellsport, WI, scored 14 points on Wednesday night as she led the #1 ranked team in NAIA D2 to their 12th straight win as they are now 12-1 on the year.

DU jumped out to a commanding 15-0 lead and after a pair of free-throws from the Hornets got them on the board, the Lady Panthers got a quick three-pointer from Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) to go up 18-2 and the rout was on.

Davenport eventually increased their lead to 30 at the break (51-21).

The three point shot was on all night for the visiting Panthers as they made 12 of 29 shots from behind the arc in the win. No DU player played more than 17 minutes as 15 of the 16 players who appeared in the game put points on the board.

The Lady Panthers shot 47% from the field while holding the host Hornets to just32% as they also forced them into 30 turnovers.

Leading the way offensively for Davenport was Kristina Cousins (Ada, Mich.) who came off the bench and posted a career high 15 points on 5/9 shooting from the field. Also posting double-digits was Benike (14), Janelle Bagneski (Lake Mills, Wis.) who finished with 12 and Julie Janish (Whittemore, Mich.) who finished with 10.

DU will now take their #1 ranking to Florida where they will take on Webber International and Warner University at the Webber International Classic on Saturday and Sunday. Both games will be carried live on the DAN.
