Panthers Defeat Northwood 4-3 After 1-0 Win in Shootout

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Davenport defeated Northwood University tonight 4-3 after a 1-0 win in the shootout. The Panthers are now 14-6 on the year and will play Saturday in the championship game.

Northwood University jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period before DU's Chad Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) scored from Garrett Russell (Midland, Mich.) to end the first down 2-1.

Both defenses held strong in the 2nd shutting down the scoring for both teams to head into the 3rd period with DU still down 2-1.

It didn't take long for the Panthers to get back on the board in the 3rd as Ben Duthler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored 30 seconds in to tie the game at 2-2. Davenport would then take the lead with 10 minutes left off a goal by Jordan Steger (Caledonia, Mich.), but Northwood would come back and tie the game up 3-3.

In overtime play both teams went scoreless which led to a three person shoot-out to determine a winner. Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was the only player to punch one through the net and give Davenport the 4-3 victory. DU goalie Matt Sekosan shut down all three Northwood players to earn the victory in net.

With the victory tonight, Davenport finishes 2-0 in their pool and will compete in the Traverse City Championship Game tomorrow. Stay tuned to www.dupanthers.com for tomorrow's opponent information and game time.
