GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - One night after beating #1 ranked Saginaw Valley State on the road, DU returned home to post a 10-0 shut-out of Oakland University. Chad Ouellette carried the way for DU posting four goals in the victory.
The first period started slow as both teams only had a combined 14 shots on goal. The action heated up as the Panthers scored two quick goals only two seconds apart at the 13:57 and 13:59 marks of the first period. Chad Ouellette would score the first off an Andy Holtrop and Ben Duthler assist while the second would come off the stick of Adam Tomacari on the ensuing face-off. After a back and forth close to the first period, the Panthers would take the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period would showcase the DU penalty kill over any offensive production. While both teams would earn more shots on goal combining for 29 in the period, neither would result in a change of score. The period did play host to a total nine penalties with seven swinging in favor of Oakland but Davenport would thwart any chances the Grizzlies had.
Third period action would start with an Oakland 5 on 3 advantage, but once again Davenport took control and killed the early opportunity for the Grizzlies. The Panthers would put the Grizzlies down by three off a power play goal from Ross Hinkle at the 4:33 mark. DU would then make the score 4-0 just 21 seconds later as Chad Ouellette added his second goal on the night. The Panthers would strike again only 12 seconds later off an unassisted goal from Norm Farr.
The scoring just kept coming as the Panthers would only take 2:24 more to find Chad Ouellette for his third goal of the game to make the score 6-0. Andrew McCloy would enter the action as he scored the Panthers seventh of the evening off an assist from Jon Kuzava at the 9:07 mark and after Oakland made a change in net, Chad Ouellette welcomes him with his fourth goal of the game. Jordan Steger would put in his work of the night with the Panther's last two goals coming at the 17:32 and 18:53 mark of the third period. The eight goal period would send the Panthers off the ice and into the locker room with a well earned 10-0 shut-out victory over a team that earlier in the season beat DU 8-0 in Rochester.
The amazing win lifts the Panthers to a 16-13 overall record and caps one of the greatest weekends in the young program's history. DU will return to action Friday, February 6th when they travel to Adrian College as they will be looking to extend their current win streak to three.
