GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Regular Season is slowly winding down for the D2 Hockey team as Davenport posted a 2-0 victory over Adrian in non-conference action tonight. The win lifts DU to 33-4 on the year with two more games before the start of their title defense in the GMHL Tourney from March 6-7.
The first period was a defensive battle as neither offense could get anything going and each goaltender was up to the task. The period ended in a 0-0 tie as DU outshot Adrian 11-7.
Jonah Rogowski and Adam Thomas then each scored a power play goal in the second period to give the Panthers a slim lead heading into the final 20 minutes of play. DU again outshot their opponent by the margin of 12-7.
The final period was another defensive battle and Wheeler was up to the challenge as he did not allow a shot by him for the shutout victory.
Davenport will travel to Adrian next weekend before finishing a GMHL cancellation game the following week with the University of Michigan.
