Lady Panthers Cruise to 105-58 Win over IU-Northwest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The #2 Lady Panthers opened the game with a 14 straight points en route to a 105-58 victory over visiting Indiana University-Northwest Thursday night.  The win increases DU's record to 17-0 on the season, and the Lady Panthers will host Lindenwood University – Belleville on Tuesday, January 4 to open the new year.

Seniors Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.), Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) and Jeannie Closson (Parchment, Mich.) fueled the 14-0 start as the trio combined to score 13 of the 14 points.  Midway through the first half, DU used a quick 10-0 run to extend the lead to 33-10 with 8:44 remaining in the first half and the Lady Panthers took a 52-28 lead into the locker room.

IU-Northwest's leading scorer Sharon Houston was limited to just 10 points in the opening half, but the 6'4 junior pulled down 10 rebounds to post a double-double by halftime. The All-American finished with just 16 points and 11 rebounds which was 7 points and 6 boards under her season average.

The second half was much of the same for DU after the Red-Hawks cut the lead to just 20, the margin quickly became 30 plus for a majority of the half.  DU increased the margin to as many as 49 on three different occasions to cruise to the 47 point win.

Four Lady Panthers scored in double figures for the game. Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) scored 20 points to pace the victors, while adding five steals. Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) tallied a game-high eight steals to go along with her 14 points and seven assists.  Kelsie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.), playing in her first career game, scored 11 points and Leah Sevcik (Kewaunee, Wis.) added 13 points, 9 of which came from behind the arc. All 15 players scored for the Lady Panthers in the game.

DU's defense forced 43 turnovers and totaled 30 steals, while holding the visitors to 32% shooting from the field for the game.

The #2 Lady Panthers will open 2011 with a Tuesday Jan. 4 home match-up against Lindenwood –Belleville at 5:30 p.m.
