The #2 Panthers didn't waste any time jumping out to an early lead Wednesday night en route to a 104-38 win over Siena Heights. With the win the Panthers improve to 12-0 and 3-0 in conference play. The Panthers will next be in action on Saturday when they travel to Concordia for a conference game.
With the Panthers leading 7-6, Davenport went on an 11-0 run capped by two consecutive layups by Jeannie Closson (Parchment, Mich.) to pull away. Closson had a team high in points (17) and rebounds (10).
Just moments later, the Panthers went on a 15-0 run to extend their lead to 33-8 with 8:26 remaining in the first half. Julie Janish (Whittemore, Mich.) scored 5 of her 9 points during this run.
Davenport held Siena Heights scoreless in the last 6:19 of the first half to take a 50-12 lead into halftime.
Siena Heights maintained that gap for the first several minutes in the second half before Davenport went on another large run (17-0) to extend the lead to 84-23 with 8:49 remaining in the second half.
Seven players scored 9 points or more for Davenport as they defeated the Saints 104-38 to improve to 12-0 on the season.
Karli Harris (Fishers, Ind.) (12), Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) (11), Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) (11), and Riana Hensley (Toledo, Ohio) (10) along with Closson all scored in double digits for the Panthers.
Davenport's fast tempo and stingy defense forced 32 Saints turnovers and held Siena to a DU Student Center record 38 points. The 66 points also sets a new record for largest margin of victory for the DU in the Student Center.
The #2 Panthers will now travel to Concordia on Saturday for a 3:00 start time. The game will be broadcasted on the DAN. Concordia at 7-4 overall and 2-0 in WHAC play is receiving votes in the NAIA Division 2 Top 25 poll.
