Davenport Edged by Aquinas 5-4

BOX SCORE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Meeting for the first time in the history of women's tennis, Aquinas edged out Davenport 5-4 on Wednesday at Orchard Hills. Davenport falls to 4-7 on the year and will take a three match road trip this weekend at Indiana Tech, Spring Arbor and Adrian.

In the first year of the DU Tennis program, the Lady Panthers came within one matcjh of defeating the cross-town rival Saints.

Davenport got a leg up in the doubles session with the team of Diane Favela (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Brittany Bott (Hudsonville, Mich.) winning 8-5 and the team of Denisse Favela (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Emily Vogl (Wyoming, Mich.) winning 8-4.

The Favela sisters then each collected wins in their singles matches by the scores of 6-2, 6-3 (Diane) and 6-3, 6-4 (Denisse). Unfortunately that would be the last scoring for DU as the Saints escaped with the one point win.

Davenport falls to 4-7 in dual matches on the year and will now hit the road for a three match weekend to take on Indiana Tech, Spring Arbor and Adrian. The match against Adrian will be the last of the inaugural year for DU Tennis.
