GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Poor shooting once again was not enough to keep #1 ranked Davenport from posting another victory, its 23rd straight. The Lady Panthers cruised to a 107-68 win over visiting UM-Dearborn despite shooting17% from behind the arc and 41% from the field. Davenport will hit the road on Wednesday, January 26 when they take on Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Five players finished in double-digits for DU led by senior
Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) with 15. Junior
Riana Hensley (Toledo, Ohio) posted 14 and grabbed 8 offensive rebounds while
Monica Confer (New Lothrup, Mich.) scored a career high 12 points.
Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) and
Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) finished with 12 and 11 respectively in the 39-point win.
After finishing the first half of conference play a perfect 8-0, the Lady Panthers opened up the second matchup with the Wolves with an 8-0 run and they never looked back leading by 32 points at the break. Dearborn did not get on the scoreboard until the 16:02 mark and DU held their opponents to just 35% shooting in the opening half and forced 17 turnovers.
12 different players for DU posted points in the first half led by
Riana Hensley (Toledo, Ohio) who posted 12 points to go along with 6 offensive rebounds. The 59 points came within two of tying the Student Center record for most in a half as DU shot only 40.7% and made only 3-23 from behind the arc.
The second half was very similar to the first with Davenport holding its largest lead of the game of 40 points with 6:04 to play. All 15 players on the team got at least seven minutes of playing time and 14 of them finished with at least 2 points as the DU bench outscored Dearborn's 51-11.
Monica Confer (New Lothrup, Mich.) hit five of her seven shots from the field including 2-3 from behind the arc while
Leah Sevcik (Kewaunee, Wis.) posted 9 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) continued her solid all-around play as the All-American finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals.
#1 Davenport will hit the road for their next two games as they travel to Fort Wayne, IN on Wednesday for a 7:30pm matchup with the Warriors of Indiana Tech. DU will then take on Siena Heights on Saturday in Adrian. Both games will air live on the DAN.
