FORT WAYNE, Ind. -
Kallie Benike led No. 1 ranked Davenport to its 24th straight win on Wednesday night as the senior posted 22 points and 8 rebounds in the 81-64 win at Indiana Tech. Davenport is now 24-0 on the year and 10-0 in league action with a road game at Siena Heights set for Saturday in Adrian.
Riana Hensley (Toledo, Ohio) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with Benike's game high 22 points as DU never trailed in the 17 point win. The margin of victory is the closest in a league contest this year for Davenport University who have now won at least 10 WHAC games in six straight seasons.
Hitting the road for just the second time in their last nine contests, the Lady Panthers came out slow but they posted a 15-6 run over the first 10:00 of the game that was highlighted by nine points from
Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.).
The lead would grow to 10 just a minute later and the score would only dip below double digits one time for the remainder of the game. A three-pointer by Benike with 3:34 remaining in the first gave DU their largest lead of the opening half at 20 points (35-15) and the Lady Panthers eventually led by 16 at the break.
The Warriors fought back in the second half and had the lead down to just 9 at at 11:41 mark but an 18-6 over the next 5:24 proved to be too much as DU increased its margin to 21 points and they cruised from there.
The Davenport bench continued to be strong as they finished the game outscoring the Warriors' bench 32-17. Sophomore
Karli Harris (Fishers, Ind.) posted 15 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and a career high 7 steals in the win.
Davenport had 7 players post at least four points in the game despite shooting just 39% from the floor. The defense once again was solid though as they held Indiana Tech to only 31% on their home floor and forced the Warriors into 21 turnovers.
DU will travel to Adrian to take on Siena Heights on Saturday. Game time is set for 3:00pm and will be broadcast live on the DAN starting at 2:40pm.
