Raina Chambers came off the bench to provide a big spark with 16 points as the No. 1 ranked Lady Panthers improved to 28-0 (14-0 WHAC) with a 95-68 win over Northwestern Ohio. Davenport will celebrate senior night on Wednesday when they host Aquinas College at 7:30pm.
In their second to last road game of the year, No. 1 Davenport overcame a hot start from the host Racers to post a convincing 95-68 win behind a team high 19 points from senior guard
Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) as
Raina Chambers (Pontiac, Mich.) tied her season and career high with 16 points.
Eight different players posted at least six points with
Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.),
Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and
Riana Hensley (Toledo, Ohio) all finishing in double figures as well.
UNOH jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and upped it to 9-2 before a 7-0 from Davenport tied the game with just over 15 minutes to play in the first half. Amanda Francis, who scored a game high 24 points for UNOH, then scored five straight points to help the Racers post another 5-point lead.
The shots finally started to fall for DU at that point as Davenport used an 18-5 run to open a 27-19 lead with 6:19 remaining in the half and they would head to the locker room with a margin of 7 at 40-33.
Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and
Riana Hensley (Toledo, Ohio) each converted wide open field goals in the first 30 seconds of the second half as DU increased their lead to 12 at 45-33. The lead would dip below 10 points only once more for the remainder of the game as the Lady Panthers continued to pull away for the easy 27 point win.
To go along with her 16 points,
Raina Chambers (Pontiac, Mich.) finished with four rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win.
Leah Sevcik (Kewaunee, Wis.) and
Jeannie Closson led DU with eight and seven rebounds repsectively as
Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) matched Chambers with five assists.
Davenport finished the game shooting 50% (38/76) from the field and hit a season high 15 three-pointers in the 27-point win. The Lady Panthers will host rival Aquinas on Wednesday at 7:30pm. The night will mark the final regular season home game for DU seniors
