Panthers Hold on For 80-70 Road Victory Over Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Lady Panthers recorded their 27th straight win to remain undefeated on the season with an 80-70 victory over Madonna tonight. All five starters recorded double digits in points with seniors Kallie Benike and Jeannie Closson each recording a double-double.

In the first half Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) would begin the scoring for DU with a lay-up at the 19:49 mark. The Panthers would trade baskets with Madonna for the first ten minutes of play before a three pointer by Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) would push DU to a nine point lead.

At the end of the first half DU would enter the locker room with a 35-24 lead after two made free throws from Grubius.

Davenport would build their lead up to as much as twenty at the 8:30 mark before Madonna would put together a 9-0 run to cut it back down to eleven. In the closing minutes of the game Madonna would continue to chip away at Davenport's lead cutting it down to just six at two occasions but the Panthers would hold on for the 80-70 victory.

Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) (14), Riana Hensley (Toledo, Ohio) (12), Jeannie Closson (Parchment, Mich.) (11), Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) (11), and Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) (11) would all score in double-digits for the Panthers, with Benike pulling down 13 and Closson 12 rebounds on the night as well.

Davenport is now 27-0 on the year and 13-0 in WHAC play. The Panthers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Northwestern Ohio for a 1:00pm conference matchup. DU won the meeting earlier this season at the DU Student Center 102-63.
