Box Score | Grashorn Audio Interview

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's tennis team continued their strong play with a 6-3 win over Olivet Nazarene. Olivet Nazarene finished last season 19-1 and ranked 14th in the country. The Lady Panthers have another tough test tomorrow when they take on Grand Valley State.

Davenport started off strong taking two of the three doubles matches. The first doubles team of Diana and Denisse Favela fell 8-5, their first doubles loss of the season. 8-3 wins by the second doubles team of Erin Hossack and Alana Meulenberg and third doubles team of Kelly Todd and Kristi Kuzdal got DU back on the right track and gave Davenport a 2-1 lead through doubles play.

The top two players for Olivet proved to be tough as Diana Favela and Alana fell at one and two singles. The other four singles matches went the way of the Panthers. Denisse Favela at three singles and Kristi at six singles each came away with convincing 6-1, 6-0 victories. Erin and Angelica Woods also won in straight sets to complete the 6-3 win.

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Grand Valley State.

Post-Match Quotes – Head Coach Patrick Grashorn

On match vs. Olivet Nazarene – “It was a big win. This Olivet team was nationally ranked last year and pretty high, they still have a couple individuals ranked pretty high which we held our own against.”

On match tomorrow against GVSU – “It's going to be tougher tomorrow than it was today. Grand Valley is always a strong team and they have more depth than Olivet and even though depth is one of our strong points they will have just as much.”
