Grand Valley Defeats Lady Panthers 9-0 in Allendale

Panthers only two losses have come against GLIAC (NCAA D2) squads

Box Score

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Davenport has had many matches this year with the score 9-0 but it was the first time that they were on the wrong side of that as the Grand Valley State women's tennis team handed Davenport their second loss of the season.  DU is now 7-2 in duals with both setbacks coming against GLIAC (NCAA D2) foes.

Grand Valley State, who boasts one of the top teams in all of NCAA D2 (ranked No. 15) handed Davenport their worst defeat of the year on Saturday afternoon as the host Lakers posted a 9-0 triumph.  More details on the match to follow.

The Lakers got things started with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play with Davenport coming closest at No. 1 but Diana Favela and Dennise Favela fell 8-5.  The other two went 8-3 and 8-0 in favor of GVSU.

On the singles side, only one match went three sets with the Lakers dominating 3-6.  Diana Favela took the No. 1 singles match to a third set but utlimately fell 4-6, 7-5, 10-5. Her sister, playing at No. 2 singles fell 6-3, 6-4 but that was the next closest match for DU.

Post-Match Quotes - Head Coach Patrick Grashorn

On playing GVSU - "I really cannot say much other than we got handled pretty badly by a very good team."
