Late Second Half Run Fuels No. 3 Davenport to 74-57 Win over Indiana Tech

Davenport hosts No. RV Siena Heights on Saturday at 3:00pm

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A 15-2 run over the final 6:25 lifted the No. 3 ranked Lady Panthers to a 74-57 win over visiting Indiana Tech on Wednesday night at the DU Student Center.  Karlee Despres had a game high 20 points while Ali Bouman came off the bench to post a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  DU has now won 16 straight games and is 21-2 on the year with Siena Heights coming to Grand Rapids Saturday at 3:00pm.

Senior Karlee Despres had the hot hand early as she finished her second straight game with 20 plus points and sophomore Ali Bouman came in to spark DU off the bench to post career highs with 10 points and 10 rebounds to help the Lady Panthers win their 33rd consecutive league contest.  Davenport struggled from the field shooting only 38% but their defense limited Tech to just 57 points and 17 turnovers.

The Warriors, who the last time DU played were ranked No. 15 in the NAIA DII, came out on fire making three of their first four shots for a 7-0 lead.  A layup from Bouman got the home team on the board at the 17:31 mark which fueled a 14-5 run to give DU the lead at 14-12 and they never trailed again.   Tech held close over the next five minutes but after a pair of free-throws by Karlee Despres put DU up 9, the lead stayed their going into halftime at 36-27.

The margin grew to as many as 15 (46-31) in the second half on a Despres layup, but the Warriors battled back to cut the lead to just four at 59-55 with 6:25 remaining.  The bucket by Tech's Simone Russell (part of her 13 points) would be the last from the field for the visitors as DU used a 15-0 run to lead 74-55 with just over a minute to play after a steal and layup from Karli Harris.  Tech would only get a pair of free-throws with under 20 seconds for their lone scoring in the final stretch.

Post-Game Quotes - Sophomore Alison Bouman

On getting another conference win: “We knew this was a big game, they (Indiana Tech) are a great team and we had to come out with a team effort.  The team did a great job passing today by my teammates; as well we had good movement by the team on the offensive end.  I've been working on catching the ball in better spots and my teammates have been great in helping me do that more effectively by working with me outside of practice.”

On team's 80% from the FT Line: “We work on free throws every practice and I worked hard all summer to gain confidence in my shot.”

On preparation going into Saturday: :As a team we definitely will be working on moving and setting more screens as well as playing better overall team basketball.”
