Box Score
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Playing their first match in over two weeks against a tough NCAA DII foe was a little too much to overcome as Davenport fell 6-3 to Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon. The match was played inside at MVP Sportsplex as the Panthers got two wins in the singles play and one in doubles. Davenport falls to 2-2 on the year and will travel to Saginaw Valley State next weekend to end their fall season.
Davenport is concluding its season with two of its toughest tests yet as they started that stretch with a 6-3 loss to the Lakers of GVSU on Saturday. DU will conclude it at SVSU next weekend hoping to head into the spring conference season above .500.
The doubles portion saw Davenport grab one of the three matches with the #1 team of
Marcie Kooyers and
Alyssa Fuentes posting an 8-5 win. DU fell by the same margin at #2 and were swept 8-0 in the final doubles match.
Fuentes then got the singles play off to the right start as she posted a 6-1, 7-5 win over her opponent. Unfortunately, the Panthers could only muster one more point as
Emily Spiech won 6-4, 6-4 at the fifth singles spot. Many points were highly contested but the Lakers proved too tough grabbing the other four singles matches.
Post-Match Quotes – Head coach
Patrick Grashorn
“Even though some of the match scores ended up looking one sided, we were in a lot of the points today. I was proud of the fight we showed up and down the lineup. We are fighting some injuries but still battled, Alyssa especially. Another tough matchup next weekend to finish our fall season.”
Post-Match Notes
