UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The fall season has come to a close for the Davenport Women's Tennis team as they fell 6-3 to NCAA DII foe Saginaw Valley State. The loss, which is the second straight for the Panthers against an opponent from the GLIAC, ends the fall slate with an overall record of 2-3. DU will resume their spring schedule in early February.
Davenport saw their fall season come to a close on Saturday as they were defeated 6-3 by the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State. DU got a pair of wins in singles play and one in the doubles play.
Starting out in doubles, DU pulled out a close 8-6 win at No. 3 behind the team of
Katie VanDerLaan and
Angelica Woods. The Cardinals however posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 and an 8-1 win at No. 2 for a 2-1 lead heading into the singles matches.
The singles side saw some very close matches from 1-6 with SVSU winning at 1/2/3 and 5. Posting wins for the Panthers were
Marcie Kooyers at No. 4 with a thrilling three set win 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 victory. No. 6 player
Katie VanDerLaan won her match in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Davenport is now off from their dual matches until early February.

Emily Spiech suffered her first loss in a dual match on Saturday...DU will resume their 2012-13 season on February 2 when they travel to St. Francis (Ill.)
