GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 12
th-ranked Davenport women's basketball team begins its Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference title defense for the seventh consecutive time Saturday as the Lady Panthers welcome newcomer Marygrove to the DU Student Center for a 1 p.m. tipoff. The men's basketball team will follow the Lady Panthers with their game against the Mustangs as well.
Davenport returns home after picking up a 77-67 victory over NCAA Division II Northern Michigan to improve to 2-0 on the very young season. The game highlighted with five players scoring in double digits for the second game in a row.
Karli Harris,
Emily Nielsen and
Leah Sevcik are three of the five players to have scored double digits in points the last two games.
Kia Frazier highlighted the game at the Wildcats with a career-most 15 points and
Tiesha Stokes scored 12 in her collegiate debut.
Marygrove under ninth-year head coach Antonio Hitchcock, officially tipped off its season last Saturday with a 77-40 blowout victory at home against Kuyper. Senior Keara Marks wrapped up the game with a double-double, turning in 22 points along with collecting 16 rebounds. She is 21 points shy to becoming the third player to reach the 1,000-point milestone in the school's history.
