GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The sixth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team continues to roll this year. After picking up their eighth straight win last Saturday, the Lady Panthers will be tested Wednesday as third-place Siena Heights comes to the DU Student Center for a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference showdown. In a rare start, the men's basketball teams will tip off the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m., with the women following at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Panthers, 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC, are currently neck-and-neck with Concordia for first place in the conference standings but the Saints are not that far behind the leaders, trailing only one game.
Davenport is among the top teams in the nation in several categories. The Lady Panthers 16.875 steals per game ranks fourth in the nation with
Karli Harris sitting in a tie for third in steals per game (4.00) while sitting in a tie for eighth overall in totals (32). In the assists column, Harris averages 5.25 assists per game places her 10th in the country. Freshman
Tiesha Stokes is currently leading the NAIA Division II in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 4.86.
Siena Heights is coming off a 67-56 WHAC victory at Northwestern Ohio last Saturday. Jen Jasinski paced the Saints with 18 points and eight rebounds while three of her teammates also scored double figures in points. With a 6-2 overall record, 3-1 in the WHAC, eighth-year head coach Susan Syljebeck's team entered last Monday with receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Top 25 poll. Sierra Calhoun has been the leader on the team in points, averaging 11.0 per game in eight starts. Right behind her is fellow starter Morgan Warfield with 10.0. Amanda Duke paces the team in boards with 7.1 rebounds per game.
