GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Tiesha Stokes scored 22 points and collected 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, and Kendra Cook added a season-high 20 points as the sixth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team held on in the second half to beat third-place Siena Heights 80-63 in a key Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference contest late Wednesday evening.

Along with Cook gathering five boards, Karli Harris manufactured 15 points, five assists and four steals. Kia Frazier also added five steals while she and Cook both notched three assists.

After both teams traded off buckets in the middle of the half, the Lady Panthers had the momentum the rest of the way. The combination of Karli Harris, Alex Law, Kendra Cook and Kayla Gross set up a 21-6 run to enter halftime with a 37-16 lead.

Although Davenport shot 34 percent from the field, it had a 25-22 edge on the Saints in rebound and dominated the steals category 7-1.

The Saints started taking advantage of personal fouls by the Panthers, scoring 10 points from the charity stripe to cut the Panthers lead to 46-34 with 13:09 left. The free throws were also part of a 15-4 run by the Saints in the span of 4:31.

Despite the fouls, Davenport shot 50 percent from the field during the second half, with Stokes and Cook combining for 26 points.

The Lady Panthers will travel across state to Southfield to play WHAC newcomer Lawrence Tech Saturday. Opening tip is at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils suffered a 83-56 defeat at Cornerstone Wednesday.

On the first half momentum – “We were really focused and keyed in on rotating like we focused on all week. I think we played a lot better with that in the first half.”

On a coaches' standpoint on Siena Heights in the second half – “They are very well coached. We knew coming into it that they are a very good team and very aggressive. We knew they were going to play real hard so we were not surprised that they came back and had that run.”
