Davenport Drops 6-3 Decision to Ferris State

Lady Panthers head south to Florida for spring break

Box Score

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - In their final match before their spring break trip, the Women's Tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to NCAA DII foe Ferris State.  Davenport, ranked No. 25 in the latest NAIA DII Top 25 Poll, falls to 8-3 on the season and will head south next week for five matches during spring break in Florida.

Davenport went up against one of the top teams in the GLIAC last night and the depth of the Bulldogs was just too much to overcome as DU fell 6-3.

The Lady Panthers got off to a great start in the doubles round as they took two of the three points with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.  Denisse Favela and Diana Favela posted an 8-4 win while Angelica Woods partnered with Stephanie Fortney for a dramtic 9-7 win.

Unfortunately, Davenport could only muster one win in singles as they were outscored 5-1 in those six matches. The lone win came at No. 2 singles where Denisse Favela won 7-5, 6-3.

Post-Match Quotes - Patrick Grashorn

"We knew it was going to be a tough match up but I felt if we played to our full potential, the girls would have their chances. Stevie and Angelica pulled out a big win at 2 doubles to take a lead going into singles.  I have to give the FSU girls credit for stepping up their games and pulling out some tough matches. Our girls fought hard and played well. I'm excited to see what we can do this upcoming week in Florida."
