KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Davenport women's tennis team made program history on Wednesday as they posted their first win in their three year history over a team ranked in the NAIA Top 25. DU defeated No. 23 Webber International 7-2 to improve to 11-3 on the season.
The action got started in the doubles with the No. 2 and No. 3 splitting to make the score 1-1. The top pair of
Denisse Favela and
Diana Favela then fought back after trailing all match to force a tie-breaker in which they won to give DU a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
After dropping a heart-breaker of 5-4 to Webber last season, DU turned up the pressure today and took five of the six singles matches.
Kelly Todd posted the clinching point as she won at No. 6 singles 7-5, 7-5.
Freshman
Angelica Woods fought back from leg cramps to pull out a dramatic three-set win and
Kristi Kuzdal also won 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.
DU has one more match to play in Florida as they take on Mount St. Mary on Friday.
