GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 10 Davenport women's basketball team makes another brief return to the Student Center Wednesday as the Panthers will host Northwestern Ohio for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. Fans can watch the game live on the Davenport Athletics Network (DAN) with
Ken Clemens providing play-by-play. Davenport is in the middle of perhaps the toughest part of its Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference schedule, playing four of five games on the road.
The Panthers come back home with a record of 20-1 overall, 12-1 in the WHAC. Before taking on Lourdes last Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio, the Panthers learned that fifth-place Madonna upset No. 8 and first-place Concordia for the Cardinals first conference loss of the season. With the Panthers defeating the Gray Wolves 90-54, they are now a half of a game behind the Cardinals. The Cardinals have played an extra league game than the Panthers.
Davenport is also on pace on achieving
Mike Williams his 100
th career victory as a head coach. Williams is 94-39 in four years as a head coach. His first head coaching job was at Finlandia, where he launched the women's basketball program and guided the Lions for three seasons (1999-2002). The Panthers awarded Williams his 50th win at the helm of the Panthers last Saturday at Lourdes. He is 50-6 as Davenport coach.
The quest for career win No. 95 will be a tough one for Davenport Wednesday as UNOH has been playing well as of late. The Racers saw their win streak snapped at three games with a 66-59 road loss to Madonna Saturday. Although she didn't get the starting nod, Sammi Dervisevic led the effort for the Racers by scoring 20 points. This season the Racers have been led by Shaye Warman and Madison Coldren, who averages 13.2 and 10.1 points per game, respectively. Warman is also leading the ballclub on the boards, dishing out 4.8 rebounds per game.
