MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Davenport women's hockey team found the offensive spark they were looking for Saturday evening. Lexie Boydston scored three goals, Chantal Caraher and Darian Adams added two and Monique Daigneault tallied one to steer the Panthers to the program's first victory Saturday night, downing Northern Michigan 8-5.
 
Boydston, who also tallied an assist, becomes the second player in school history to record a hat trick. Caraher also had three assists on the evening while Daigneault notched two.
 
Victoria Smishek becomes the first DU netminder to earn the win after facing 26 shots on the evening.
 
The Panthers got on the board 2:30 into the game when Daigneault scored with help from Nichole Werkema and Tara Boliard. Caraher would go back-to-back on goals at 11:08 and 18:32. Adams helped Caraher out with both goals while Daigneault assisted her second one.
 
After scoring back-to-back goals, Caraher would go two in a row in assists, contributing to Boydston's two goals early in the second period. Megan DeVries garnered the assist in Boydston's first goal and Daigneault notched the second one.
 
DU and Northern Michigan would trade goals the rest of the second period. After the Wildcats got on the board at 7:18, the Panthers took a 6-1 lead on Adams goal from Boydston and Caraher. The Wildcats would score again at 17:24 but Boydston would complete the hat trick 48 seconds later.
 
The Wildcats would score three goals in the third period. Daigneault scored the Panthers only goal in the period at 11:38.
 
The two teams return to the ice for a brunch date Sunday. Faceoff is set for 11 a.m.
