GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's hockey team would look to continue their hot streak as they enter the game against Ohio State. The game would go 60 minutes without either team scoring. In overtime it did not take long to for the Lady Panthers to put one on the board. Chantal Caraher would score just 28 seconds into the extra period. Lauren Yomantes would post the first shutout in program history. The Lady Panthers will be back in action as they take on Ohio State again tomorrow at Patterson Ice Center at 10:45 a.m.

The Lady Panthers would open their first game after coming off a weekend sweep of Northern Michigan. The game started with both teams trading chances. Neither team could sustain pressure on the opposing goaltender. Both teams had power play opportunities to try and break the ice, but both goaltenders would come up big to keep the score tied at zero. After the first buzzer would sound both teams would head into the locker room at a 0-0 tie.

The second period opened the same way as the first. Both teams had chances, but could not put one on the board. The Lady Panthers had a power play chance part way through the period, but could not manage a goal. However, DU used the momentum to sustain pressure in the Buckeye zone. Ohio State goaltender, Bridget Gipper would come up with some big save to keep the game scoreless.

Toward the end of the second period Davenport would have to kill off some penalty time. Lauren Yomantes came up huge to keep the game 0-0 heading into the second intermission.

In the final period of regulation, DU would have to kill off 1:44 of a carry over penalty. The penalty kill was huge for the Lady Panthers. Just after the carry over penalty DU hold would called for a five-minute major penalty. Yomantes came up big to keep the game were it was. The penalty kill in front of Yomantes would continue to clear the puck to keep the score at 0-0.

Both teams would have chances but once again the net minders on both sides of the ice would come up huge to force an overtime period.

In the overtime period DU would strike quickly as Chantal Caraher would score for the Lady Panthers 35 seconds into the overtime period to give Davenport the 1-0 victory.

After the game head coach, Tom Hofman said, "It was nail bitter 0-0 heading into the third. We doubled them in shots, the scoreboard doesn't show it but we took it to them. Their goalie came up big, hit her a few times and put a few over." Hofman continued to talk about heading into tomorrow's game; "We really dominated them and leave it to Chantal to put in. That's the way to win in overtime, less than a minute in."

The Panthers will be back in action against Ohio State tomorrow as the two teams close out the weekend series. The puck drops at 10:45 a.m. at the Patterson Ice Center.
