GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fall season came to a close today for the Davenport Women's Tennis Team as they picked up a solid 6-3 win over NCAA DII foe Saginaw Valley State. Davenport won two doubles matches and four singles to improve their dual match record to 2-1 heading into the spring.
After seeing two of their top players head to Florida last weekend for the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals, the team returned to dual action today and picked up an impressive 6-3 win over GLIAC foe Saginaw Valley.
Head coach Patrick Grashorn and the Panthers got it started with a 2-1 edge in doubles as they picked up wins from Emily Spiech/Alyssa Fuentes (8-0) as well as Montserrat Elizondo/Kristi Kuzdal (8-2).
Turning to singles, DU got wins from Alyssa Fuentes (6-4, 4-6, 7-5) at No. 1, Kristi Kuzdal (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4, Angelica Woods (6-1, 4-6, 6-0) at No. 5 and Elizondo (6-2, 6-0) at No. 6.
The win sends Davenport into the offseason with a 2-1 record in dual matches.
