GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's hockey team continues to show a lot of confidence on the ice as
Chantal Caraher earned her second career hat trick,
Lexie Boydston and
Tara Boliard both added two and three other Panthers scored one to lead the Panthers to another 10-2 victory over Central Michigan Sunday morning to run their win streak to six games.
Megan DeVries' presence was also felt as she assisted three goals on the day to lead DU in that department.
Darian Adams tallied both a goal and an assist while
Caitlin Harrison and
Monique Daigneault contributed one assist each.
Despite the 10-2 result, DU netminder
Lauren Yomantas had to make 17 saves on the day, including several key plays in the second period to prevent a momentum change.
Boliard, who is coming off her first career hat trick Saturday night, put the Panthers on the board 2:40. She collected the loose puck and took a shot from near the blue line in the Chippewas zone. Boydston broke away from center ice with the puck and snapped it into the goal for a 2-0 lead at 8:03.
It didn't take very long for the Panthers to add their first goal of the second period as Boydston made a brilliant move around the circle to find the back of the net 43 seconds in for a power play goal. DU would take advantage on another power play opportunity with 16:33 left.
Melissa Cresse took a shot that bounced off Chippewa goalie Cecilia Anscomb, Caraher collected the loose puck after it deflected off her skate and made a quick flick to the goal for a 4-0 lead, her first on the day.
The Panthers let a goal slip right by them while they were trying to kill a penalty. Yomantas lost her balance trying to save a shot before Danyle Proctor was able to knock the loose puck into the open net.
DU managed to find the back of the net two more times before heading into the second intermission. While playing shorthanded Caraher tapped the puck near the crease that slid under Anscomb at 11:08. Caraher completed the hat trick with 10:04 left in the third period with help from Harrison and Daigneault.
Davenport returns to Patterson Ice Center Friday as it welcomes Michigan State for a two-game CCWHA set. Faceoff is set for 8:15 p.m.
